Nintendo is offering a special edition Pokémon Sword and Shield version of the Nintendo Switch Lite to mark the upcoming launch of the new RPG game.

Nintendo has finally confirmed rumors and speculations about an upcoming portable console that is lighter, smaller and more affordable than its current Nintendo Switch console.

Update: Nintendo Switch Lite Pre-order details.

The new Nintendo Switch Lite is coming out on September 20, and will retail at $199.99, $100 cheaper than the Nintendo Switch, which costs $299.99.

Unlike the Nintendo Switch that can be played on TV mode, tablet mode and handheld mode, the Switch Lite is designed specifically for handheld play for gamers on the go. Despite its compact and lightweight built, the Switch Lite can still play the library of Nintendo Switch games that work in handheld mode, meaning you can still play hit Nintendo games like Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, and more than 2,000 more games.

The new device supports multiplayer gaming options, allowing players to link up to eight Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite systems together. Owners of Switch Lite can also play online to face off with other players.

As with the Nintendo Switch, Lite also allows users to shop online through Nintendo eShop, where players can buy digital versions of full games. The device also offers news updates, announcements and more with a custom news feed. The Lite also has an album, where users can save screenshots of their game.

However, unlike the Nintendo Switch, the Lite does not include a set of Joy-Con controllers, such as the HD Rumble or IR Motion Camera. It is also not compatible with Nintendo Switch dock as it does not support TV gameplay.

The Switch Lite comes in three different colors: yellow, gray and turquoise, and measures 3.6-inch high, 8.2-inch long, and 0.55-inch deep, slimmer than the Nintendo Switch at 4-inch high, 9.4-inch long, 0.55-inch deep with the Joy-Con attached. The Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch touchscreen display, whereas the first Switch has a 6.2-inch touchscreen display.

The average battery life for the Nintendo Switch Lite is approximately 3 to 7 hours, even longer than the Nintendo Switch at about 2.5 to 6.5 hours.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the upcoming release of the Pokémon Sword and Shield RPG games, Nintendo is also rolling out a special Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition for the same price. The special editions will be available starting November 8, ahead of the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield on November 15.
